At the NAEA Conference

Mary Joe Quinn, Art Teacher at Christ the King School in Lexington, sends along this update:

Beth Ettenson and I attended the NAEA (National Arts Education Association) conference in Baltimore this past week. The theme was Art and Social Justice. We attended a multitude of impressive sessions, including a number on curriculum, assessment and social justice, anti-bullying. We also made a quick trip to Mass at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception .

These few days were time well spent to invigorate us and our programs.

Seton Stars Win Big at Music in the Parks

Amy Black, Music Specialist at Seton Catholic School in Lexington, sends this exciting update:

Members of Seton’s Star Singers participated in the Music in the Parks Festival in Loveland, Ohio on April 17th. The 17 participants who are in grades 3-8 were honored with a superior rating, first place in their class, and best overall choir. They competed against elementary, middle, and high school age choirs from Kentucky, Indiana, and Ohio.

The awards ceremony was held at Kings Island, and Snoopy presented the awards. Receiving the awards were choir president, Savannah Brant and eighth grader, Bridget Thesing.

Catch "Anything Goes" at LCH This Week

The Lexington Catholic High School drama department presents their final main stage performance of the year, Anything Goes, a classic Cole Porter musical, on Thursday, April 15th, Friday, April 16th and Saturday, April 17th at 7:30pm. The show is a hilarious farce set on the decks of an Ocean Liner and features some of Cole Porter's most outstanding songs, including "I Get a Kick Out of You," "It's DeLovely," and "You're the Top." And there will be tap dancing....

Lex Cath Student Art Display at KY Theater

Here's a message from Chris Bruggeman, art teacher at Lexington Catholic High School:

The Lexington Catholic Collin Cox Memorial Art Show Reception Opening will be held April 16th, 5pm-8pm at the Kentucky Theatre. The show will be on display through the month of April.

This is the 4th year of the student art exhibit, and we are very happy to have renamed it in accordance with the Collin Cox Memorial Scholarship. Please come and enjoy some beautiful artwork created by our very own Fine Art students. Contributions to the Collin Cox Memorial Scholarship allow for continued success of our visual art students at Lexington Catholic High School.

The reception time coincides with the Downtown Gallery Hop, which means that our students will be exhibiting simultaneously with professional artists throughout the Lexington galleries. The event is free and open to the public.
