Fun at the District 7 Honors Band

Students from Christ the King, Seton Catholic School, Mary Queen of the Holy Rosary and Sts. Peter and Paul School participated in the District Honors Band on January 9-10. (See arts blog entry fron 12/10/08!).

The students traveled to Kentucky State University in Frankfort where they worked hard to learn several new pieces, rehearse, and then peform at a Saturday afternooon concert. Congratulations to all the students for such great effort!

St. Leo celebrates the Fruits of the Spirit

St. Leo School sent this recap of their Christmas musical production:

On December 18th St. Leo School put on a production of "Music Machine". The play is a musical fantasy about the fruits of the Holy Spirit. This is also the St. Leo school theme this year. Students sang songs about the 9 fruits of the Spirit as well as some other songs tied to the plays story. Each nativity character in the finale represented a fruit of the Spirit. For example, Mary was "Patience" because she waited for Jesus to be born. Joseph was "faithfulness" because he trusted God's plan for the Holy Family. Jesus is "Love."

The play was directed by Rosie Fedorchuk who was assisted by Megan Zerhusen. One of the features of the play was the second grade song "Patience." Second grade teacher, Judy Helton, played a hurried snail, and Father Dan Noll played her snail father who sings about the virtues of being patient. The second grade students were singing insects. Each grade sang a song in simple costumes designed for their song.

The play also featured ballet solos and a prelude including recorder playing by middle school students, carols, and piano, violin, and guitar solos.
