Arts Fair at CTK

Mary Joe Quinn, Art Teacher at Christ the King School in Lexington, sends this information:

On Saturday, January 29,2011 Christ the King School will host its Third Annual Kids Art Fair from 5 until 8pm. Student matted and framed art work will be on display as part of the kick off celebration for Catholic Schools Week. Frames may be purchased as part of this event, which helps support the art program at CTK.

We invite everyone to stop by and enjoy our students' art!

MQHR Music Review

Mark Flannery, music teacher at Mary Queen of the Holy Rosary School in Lexington, sends this update about the variety of music and programs at the school last semester:

During the fall festival at MQHR, our students performed Sleepy Hollow under the stars of the fall sky. Prior to the performance, we were treated to some special guests, “Haitian Harmony,” thanks to Alltech and the World Equestrian Games. Our students and Haitian Harmony performed “He’s Got the Whole World In His Hands,” as a grand finale.

In November, five MQHR 4th and 5th grade students attended the KMEA district 7-11 choral festival at Eastern Kentucky University.

In December, the second grade students of MQHR performed, “Melton the Warm-Hearted Snowman.” The theme of the production was giving back to the community. Instead of an entrance fee we collected breakfast and snack foods for the Ronald McDonald House. We were so proud to have nine large boxes of food donated to the students’ service project organization.

Herald Leader article features SPPS

The January 19, 2001, edition of the Lexington Herald Leader features a fun article about how students at Sts. Peter and Paul Regional School in Lexington reached out to visitor's at the 2010 Alltech World Equestrian Games.

Michelle Jackson, who teaches Fifth Grade at SPPS, asked the two classes in the Fifth Grade to write welcome letters to WEG visitors. Michelle worked as a volunteer during the Games, and when she met visitors from another state or country, she would give them one of the 50 or so letters written by the students.

Some visitors have written back from places as far away as Scotland and Australia. Later this week, the fifth grade at SPPS will have a Skype video call with a class from Alabama that is a result of an Alabama student receiving a letter while visiting the WEG.

Calling All Student Artists!

Nanci Barnhart, Fine Arts Coordinator at Sts. Peter and Paul School in Lexington, sends this exciting invitation:

Sts. Peter and Paul School, 423 W. Short St., is proud to be a part of the downtown Lexington Gallery Hop series for 2011! Our first event will be Friday, February 18.

We would like to invite all teachers and students in the Diocesan Catholic school system to submit art pieces to be exhibited during this first Gallery Hop. Art teachers should select no more than twelve juried pieces and bring them to the school on February 17 to set them up. If you have your own hanging system or sculpture bases, please bring them.

The art will be displayed in the Little Theatre and Fine Arts hallways at SPPS during our “Series with the Saints” concert and our Intermediate musical, “Jungle Book”, as well as the Gallery Hop.
